What is  Cobra Travel?

Cobra Travel is a spring only travel lacrosse program based in Howard County.  Cobra Travel teams play in the Maryland Youth Lacrosse Association (MYLA), which is made up of teams from the greater Baltimore area.

Who is  Cobra Travel intended for?

Cobra Travel is intended for athletes who want a higher level of lacrosse instruction, commitment, and play, but don’t want to commit to a year round club lacrosse program.

How much does Cobra Travel cost?

Cobra Travel fees are approximately $350 per year. $200 is due at registration, and a $150 commitment fee is due at the time of acceptance of a spot on a Cobra roster. Uniforms are additional and last year the cost was $58.  Cobra Travel typically uses the same uniforms year to year so only new players and those that outgrow their uniforms need to buy new ones.  Financial assistance is available for those who qualify.

Do you have to try out for  Cobra Travel?

Yes, tryouts take place in September and October and consist of two days or nights of evaluations.  Cobra Travel tryouts are open to everyone and teams are made up of the players who score highest in the tryouts.  Returning Cobra Travel players are not guaranteed a spot on a Cobra Travel team.  Cobra Travel coaches are not selected until after tryouts to ensure that the tryouts are fair to everyone. Players who do not make a Cobra Travel team are automatically rolled in to the HC Lax rec lacrosse program.

When are Cobra Travel Tryouts?

Cobra tryouts are listed under the "about Cobra" on the website. Everyone who registers will receive a numbered pinnie to wear to tryouts. Players keep these pinnies regardless of tryout outcomes. All players should also bring a signed code of conduct for to hand in at pinnie pickup. The form is available at: http://hclacrosse.com/Page.asp?n=78034&org=hclacrosse.com.

Cobra Travel teams play in the spring only and compete against teams from other rec councils in the Baltimore area. Club teams play in the spring, summer, and fall and play against other club teams from Maryland and surrounding states. Some club teams will also travel across country to play in tournaments.

While each club team has a different cost structure, Cobra Travel costs significantly less than club programs.

All Cobra Travel players will play a minimum of 1/3 of each game. Club teams typically do not have a minimum playing time requirement.

What is the difference between Cobra Travel and HC Lax rec lacrosse?

Cobra Travel starts practice one month earlier than rec teams and practices 2-4 times a week, compared to 1-2 times a week for rec teams.  Cobra Travel costs approximately $325 per year, rec costs $175 per year. The MYLA teams Cobra Travel plays against are made up of players from all around the Baltimore area, while rec teams are all made up of Howard County Players.  Cobra Travel teams play in pre season and end of season tournaments, rec teams do not play in tournaments. You have to tryout and be selected to play on a Cobra Travel team, there are no tryouts for rec.

How are HoCo Club Club and Cobra Travel related?

Cobra Travel and HoCo Club are both Howard County Lacrosse Programs (HCLP). Even though both programs are under the HCLP umbrella, the Cobra Travel and HoCo Club Club programs are run and operate independently of each other and each have different program directors.
